Our Senior Health Care Program at Mountain Shadows Pet Hospital
is designed to be a comprehensive and lifelong program focusing on prevention,
early detection and quality treatment of illness and disease in our older
pets. In general, any pet over the age of 6 years is considered to be
in their senior years and would be an excellent candidate for our Senior
Health Care Program.
The introductory visit
when your pet enters into our Senior Health Care Program includes
all of the following:
- Complete recent
history (medical and behavioral) by one of our doctors.
- Complete physical
exam including orthopedic exam (to assess for arthritis), oral exam
(to carefully assess dental health) and evaluation of your senior pet's
weight & behavior,
- Canine or feline
complete blood panel to assess your pet's internal organ function, blood
cells and major electrolytes.
- Complete in-hospital
urinalysis to assess your pet's urinary system (kidneys & urinary
bladder) and to screen for sugar & protein in the urine.
- 2 chest x-rays
to assess the l Éungs, heart, trachea (windpipe), lymph nodes
of the chest and large veins and arteries of the chest.
- 2 abdominal x-rays
to assess the organs in the abdomen including the liver, spleen, stomach,
kidneys, intestines and urinary bladder.
- Blood pressure
measurement to assess the cardiovascular system.
- In-hospital ECG
screen (electrocardiogram) to help assess the rhythm, size and heart
rate of your pet's heart.
- 6 month follow-up
complete physical exam with your pet's doctor.
- Full set of appropriate
vaccines at any time during the year if needed.
- Half-day hospitalization
in a comfortable area and a healthy, tasty lunch!
- An in-hospital
consultation with your pet's doctor to discuss complete test results
and plan for your pet's health care in the future.
